Bad Axe, MI – Over 70 Huron County Nursing Home workers represented by SEIU Healthcare Michigan have delivered a notice last Friday for an informational picket on July 30th. Workers say that management has proposed pay cuts of $1400 a year by eliminating Sunday and holiday premium pay, while also cutting paid leave. 

“Huron County’s proposal takes us in the wrong direction, making us feel unappreciated and disrespected. We need living wages and reasonable time off so that we can keep staff in the building. Cuts to our wages and benefits create a staffing crisis that harms both workers and residents. We are calling on Huron County to agree to a contract which puts resident care first,” said Heather Collon, a worker and union leader at Huron County.

The previous union contract expired on December 31st, 2023.
